Privacy Policy

Short version: every test on this site runs locally in your browser. Your key presses, controller axes, mouse events, microphone and camera data never leave your device.

Last updated: 15 September 2026

What this site processes

The hardware tests read device data through standard browser APIs — Gamepad, KeyboardEvent, PointerEvent, MediaDevices and Web Audio. This data exists only in your browser tab memory for the duration of the test and is discarded when you close the page. There is no upload endpoint on this site, no user accounts, and no server-side storage of test results.

What I never collect

I do not collect your name, address, phone number or payment details, because there is nothing on this site that asks for them. I do not record your keystrokes, mouse movements, camera frames or microphone audio anywhere outside your own browser tab. I do not build a profile of you, and I do not sell, rent or share personal data with data brokers.

Analytics

This site does not run third-party analytics today. If that changes, this page will be updated before analytics goes live, and it will never be linked to the device data described above — that data never leaves your browser.

Advertising

This site is supported by advertising served through Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.

You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendor cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info. The first time you visit, a banner asks you to accept or decline advertising cookies, and your choice is stored in this browser.

The advertising partners in use are listed in the ads.txt file. Amazon affiliate links, where present in guides, are marked as such.

Cookies

The tests themselves do not need cookies. Cookies on this site are set by advertising partners, and one first-party entry is stored in your browser's local storage to remember the accept or decline choice you made in the consent banner. Clearing site data in your browser removes it, and the banner will simply appear again on your next visit.

Server logs

Like every website, the hosting provider records standard request logs — IP address, user agent, the page requested and a timestamp — for security and to keep the site online. Those logs are generated by the host, not by this site, and are not combined with anything else to identify you.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to the personal data held about you, to ask for it to be corrected or deleted, to object to processing, or to withdraw consent for advertising cookies at any time. Because this site holds almost nothing, most requests resolve to a short answer; where a request relates to advertising data, you will be pointed to Google's own controls. Write to privacy@gearlint.comand you will get a response within 30 days.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent personal data to this site, write in and it will be deleted.

Changes to this policy

If the way this site handles data changes — for example if analytics or new advertising partners are added — this page is updated and the date at the top changes with it. There is no newsletter, so this page is the notice.

Your choices

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time; the hardware tests will continue to work, because they do not depend on cookies.
